This is a fun, encouraging story.
Lyle’s son in law Tyler runs a landscaping business and last summer got a bid to work out at Bridal Falls. Part of the job was to clean up bottles and cans from around the campground. Tyler’s kids (Lyle and Barbs grandkids) had the responsibility to clean, sort, and bring them into the bottle depot. Landon (11), Hailey (9), and Case (5) just completed the hard work and then presented Lyle with the full amount of $200. They said they wanted it to go toward Charis Camp as a donation. What a statement from kids who have been so impacted by camp! Three young kids with $200…that’s a lot of money. For them to donate it to our Camp brought tears to grandpa Mammel’s eyes.
It reminded Lyle of the story of the widow’s mite or the story of the widow’s offering. One day, Jesus was sitting with His disciples near the temple treasury watching people depositing money into the offering receptacles. Jesus watched as the rich were contributing large sums of money, but then along came a widow with two small coins in her hand. The ESV calls them “two small copper coins, which make a penny” (Mark 12:41). The KJV calls the coins “mites.” These were the smallest denomination of coins. The widow put her coins into the box, and Jesus called His disciples to Him and pointed out her action: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on” (Mark 12:43–44; cf. Luke 21:1–4).
AMEN!!! I love this story! I love that it’s not the amount we give but the heart behind it!

Yah, love this very much! I have been shocked at how much has been given to the camp from youth and young adults who don’t have much to give.
Great encouraging story — the legacy of generosity to further God’s kingdom passed down from generation to generation!
Amazing story. Thanks Lyle for sharing that with us. I had the pleasure of watching Lyles eyes as he told this story. Loads of joy as he declared the faith of his kids!
