We are excited to share some wonderful news!
On May 29, 2026, the City of Chilliwack officially issued the building permit for our new church building. This is a significant milestone in the journey God has led us on, and we are grateful for His faithfulness every step of the way.
The immediate next step is for the various trades to submit their estimates for the work. This tendering process will take several weeks as quotes are received and carefully reviewed. You may also notice a construction fence being installed on the property in the near future as preparations begin.
There is still much work ahead, but after many months of planning, praying, and waiting, we are now moving into an exciting new phase. Stay tuned—the fun stuff is about to begin!
We are also discussing plans for a special prayer gathering when the first shovel goes into the ground. This will be an opportunity for us as a church family to gather, to thank God, dedicate the project to Him, and pray for the work ahead. More details will be shared as they become available.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Doug for faithfully leading the building team and for the countless hours of hard work he has invested throughout this process. His dedication, perseverance, and leadership have been a tremendous blessing as we have worked toward this important milestone.

The demolition and removal of the original 1948 church structure is complete. The next steps involve collaboration with the insurance company on the construction of our new building in the coming months.

Our friends at the Salvation Army Church have graciously offered space for the Cross Connection Church congregation to meet in their building every Sunday for the foreseeable future so that we can continue growing together and seek Jesus.

the story of the fire
On September 4th, 2023 at around 2:50 p.m. firefighters were called to Cross Connection Church on the corner of Princess and Williams in Chilliwack with the report of a fire. A total of 54 firefighters responded and when the first crews arrived, smoke and flames could be seen venting from the attic.
Firefighters initially entered the building to see if they could find where the fire started but were faced with heat and heavy smoke. Due to the rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the building, all firefighters were pulled back.
For the remainder of the fire, crews fought the blaze using multiple aerial master streams from a ladder truck while crews on the ground used handheld hoses. Many neighbours and congregation members gathered through the afternoon and evening to watch our 75-year-old church get torn down and destroyed by the fire.
By the late evening, an excavator was brought in to remove some collapse hazards and begin demolition of parts of the building. Despite the severity of the fire, some significant items inside the church were saved.
The fire left much of the church in ruins and sections of the crumpled building were still smouldering Tuesday.
