This Sunday marks the beginning of our summer series on the Beatitudes. Matthew chapter 5 begins Jesus’ famous “Sermon on the Mount,” which opens with nine statements called “The Beatitudes” that seem very simple at first glance but are pretty deep.
In verse three, Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
How many of us have been down and out physically, financially, spiritually, or otherwise? We look at all the resources around us and see that there is nothing that we can do to get ourselves out of this broken state. It is there when we must run to Jesus because only in Jesus will we find our salvation.
Jesus promised He would give to those who humble themselves and come to Him the kingdom of heaven. Heaven has no crying, sorrow, or pain. You will find joy overflowing in the kingdom of God. As we wait for the kingdom’s fullness to be given, we can walk in joy, hope, and freedom amid sorrow, hopelessness, and bondage.
Come and find Jesus at Cross Connection Church this Sunday at 10 am. We hope to see you then!
