Have you ever seen a child with a toy they love? They carry it around with them and don’t let anyone else touch it. They get pretty protective of them.

When I was a kid, I was pretty level-headed. I had toys I liked and others I loved. But you could reason with me to share just about all of them. However, I loved my hats. If someone took my hat, I would go into a raging fit that would cause a full-grown man to second-guess messing with me. I am not convinced it was healthy behaviour I had, but ‘don’t touch my hats!’

Envy is one of those things that makes your skin crawl because of selfishness. Envy is a nasty feeling that hurts everyone involved. Envy is rooted in pride. Pride almost always represents itself in boasting. It’s a vicious cycle.

As we meet this week, we will go through 1 Corinthians 13:4b talking about envy and boasting. These can have nothing to do with how we treat others. We are called to love!

We hope to see you at Cross Connection Church this Sunday at 10 AM as we learn to love a little more like Jesus.
